SMACNA will present two stimulating sessions – on Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) – to help sheet metal and HVAC contractors prosper in competitive markets.
The business session, “LEED Building for Sheet Metal and HVAC Contractors,” will assist contractors in understanding LEED, how it might be used as a market differentiator, and whether becoming LEED-certified is the right business decision for their firm. The seminar will also introduce the financial implications of LEED certification from cost to recovery.
Another session, “Building Information Modeling and Integrated Project Delivery,” will present the case that the ideal BIM process is integrated project delivery (IPD). Contractors will learn about the current status of IPD in the industry, including barriers to implementation, and the expected future direction. Participants will also learn about the converging forces driving the AEC industry toward integration and the resulting opportunities created by IPD.
Dr. Bradley T. Johnson, a senior consultant at Maxim Consulting Group, will lead both sessions. He specializes in modelling and virtual modelling services in the construction market.
SMACNA’s 66th Annual Convention will take place at the Desert Springs JW Marriott Resort and Spa in Palm Desert, Calif., from Oct. 11-15, 2009.
